Interested in purchasing a new Ford vehicle? If so, next time you’re at your nearest Ford dealership, be sure to look at each vehicle’s window sticker, and you’ll see that Ford is using SMS autoresponders to engage potential buyers.
Not ready to buy a new car, but still want to see how Ford is using SMS autoresponders? No problem! See below for a window sticker for a 2015 Ford Mustang. As you can see from the example below, a window sticker will tell a potential buyer about the car, including what features it comes with, pricing, fuel economy, and even it’s safety rating.
You’ll notice that in the bottom right hand corner of the Ford window sticker, there’s a QR code, and beside that QR code, it reads “Text 1FF5371468 to 48028”. In this case, “1FF5371468” would be the SMS autoresponder keyword, which is unique for each Ford vehicle, and 48028 is the SMS short code Ford is using.
You can click on the Ford window sticker below to enlarge the image, or scroll down to see zoomed in versions.
Below is a zoomed in version of the Ford window sticker, where the SMS autoresponder is located.
When a potential buyer texts the vehicle’s unique SMS autoresponder keyword, in the example above that would be “3FEM244093”, to Ford’s short code 48028, they receive back a text message. In that text message from Ford, there’s a link to a mobile website to learn more about that specific Ford vehicle. You can see an example of the Ford text message below.
When someone clicks on the link in the Ford text message, they’re taken to a mobile optimized web page, with more information about that specific Ford vehicle. You can see an example of one of these mobile optimized web pages in the image below.
What’s interesting to note is this isn’t Ford’s first time using text messaging to engage would-be buyers. Back in 2011, Ford used text messaging in their print advertising to generate a phenomenal 15.4% conversion rate. Also, it’s not like Ford is the only vehicle manufacturer that is using text messaging. Check out the article we wrote here, about Chevrolet’s use of an SMS contest to generate sales leads.
Did you know that back in 2011, Tatango had their very own car? Coincidentally that car was a Ford vehicle, and we also used an SMS autoresponder on the car. If you’re interested in reading more about the Tatango car, and our use of an SMS autoresponder on the car, check out this blog post.
